What is the Average Testosterone for my Age?

Introduction

According to the National Library of Medicine, they define Testosterone as… “the primary male hormone responsible for regulating sex differentiation, producing male sex characteristics, spermatogenesis, and fertility.”

How testosterone is produced and acts on our bodies is based on biology, genetics, and the proper functioning of organs from the hypothalamus in the brain all the way to your family jewels.

Production of testosterone generally peaks in the teen years during puberty. I believe that Testosterone has the capacity to remain quite high if given factors such as lifestyle, diet, exercise routines, and quality of sleep are optimized.

However, because of the life choices we make, testosterone can decrease over time either at a dramatic rate or very slowly as we age. This is partially why we see a decline in testosterone across an individual’s lifespan.

What This Means For You…

The fact that testosterone levels can be improved naturally makes boosting it one of the most genuinely masculine endeavors. To care for one’s health, exercising & lifting heavy, eating nutrient-dense foods, eating quality animal foods, and having a stoic mindset for mental health and solace.

The difference between having low testosterone and having high testosterone is one that is felt often, but many men do not think about testosterone to be a reinforcing factor.

Testosterone levels are best measured through a blood test that is drawn early in the morning hours.

The most common measurement of total testosterone people are familiar with is nanograms per deciliter (ng/dL). If your blood test displays your results in nmol/L then you will need to convert that into ng/dL to fall into these same guidelines.

These ranges are stratified by age group as well as geographic location usually, depending on which lab is doing the testing/analysis. One of the most common testing and analysis companies is Labcorp in the USA and they have the following reference ranges.

To extrapolate these reference ranges see this line graph and see where your levels stack up against the ‘average’ joe out there. If you’re looking to maximize your life and live at that elite level of total testosterone, you know that you should be near that optimal level at least.

Being on a curve, these numbers do show a decline over time but it certainly is not a death sentence to one’s testosterone levels.

Like our brothers Mike Sager (946 ng/dL) and Roney Godfrey (1,422 ng/dL) these can still maintain very high levels even in their 70s and 50s onward, respectively.

The understanding of reference ranges regarding Total Testosterone levels is just the first level. Free Testosterone is another measure for another day, beyond the regulation of how the body can release and express these hormone molecules for actual benefits.

However, anyone with optimized Free Testosterone likely has total testosterone levels near where these guidelines are in the optimized range.

For most anyone, natural optimization is within reach and should be looked at in a holistic way. Covering true root cause issues that may be contributing to sub-optimal levels.

My advice, take responsibility for the choices you make, whether you make them consciously or not. Educate yourself, and think about using natural supplements such as vitamins, minerals, or proven herbs.

This is what the Aphro-D brand stands for, looking for common deficiencies, optimizing sleep, improving diet quality, and incentivizing higher testosterone levels through physical activity.
